Support for science and federal ornithologists

The Ornithological Council was founded to give a voice to the ornithological community. One of the ways the OC supports the ornithological community is speaking out to support ornithologists, as well as science and science-based decision making. Recently, the OC and its member societies have taken a number of actions to support ornithologists at federal agencies.

Letters from the OC showing support for the Bird Banding Laboratory (sent to USGS Leadership, the Secretary of the Interior, and Members of Congress from Maryland and West Virginia)

A sign-on letter with over 50 scientific societies to the U.S. Congress, urging lawmakers to oppose recent executive actions that are harming the country’s scientific enterprise, signed by the OC and several OC societies 

How Can You Help?

Ornithologists and supporters in the U.S. can contact your members of Congress to express your support for science, wildlife management and conservation, and federal ornithologists. You can look up your Representatives and Senators here. Once you enter your location, your members will come up, along with contact information. If you already know who you’d like to call, you can simply dial the Capitol Switch Board at 202-224-2131 and ask to be connected to that office.
